Died peacefully in her sleep on April 12th, 2025 at the Lyngblomsten Care Center in St. Paul, MN. Evelyn was the youngest and las remaining of six children born to Paul (Apostolos) Daltas and Athanasia Daltas (James). Her sisters were Katherine and Hilda and her brothers were John, Theodore (Ted), and Spero. Evelyn lead a very Lively and active life. A Graduate of Central High School, she worked for most of her career as an office administrator at the St. Paul office for Minneapolis terminal Warehouse, later renamed the Space Center. Like most of her family, she was active in church activities including the choir, daughters of Penelope and as an editor of “Greek Heritage and Biographies, 1985” that recorded the valuable histories of the church members. She enjoyed traveling with her family including trips to Greece to re-engage with relatives there and to see the historic heritage sites. She loved the outdoors, especially swimming and hiking. In the winter she liked sledding and skiing and the St. Paul Winter Carnival activities, and delighted in its annual hunt for hidden treasure using the clues published in the newspaper. She was active in Democratic party politics.
As an extra she appeared in the movie, Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999).
Evelyn was a huge Minnesota Twins fan and attended both the 1965 and 1987 World Series. In 1987 she watched her niece Kathy’s husband Frank Viola help the Twins win that series! She loved and shared with her family raising a series of cats; and she has a special affection for Coco who was the last one living with her.
Sharp, witty, and very informed, Evelyn always enjoyed sharing a hearty laugh and kept a positive view of life. Born on March 14th, 1925, Evelyn has just celebrated her 100th birthday with a large party attended by over 80 relatives and friends, some coming from both coasts and Florida.
It was acatered party with avariety of entrees, extensive balloons and her favorite Greek Desserts as well as a commemorative 20-page photo book for her and attendees. She is survived by nephews, Arthur (Ellen) Daltas, Paul (Nancy) Daltas and Philip Daltas; nieces, Kathy (Frank) Viola and Diane (Glen) Vanderhorst-Roseland; great-nieces Tami (Greg) Matti, Jennifer (David) Larson, Jessica (Ryan) Carlson, Dara (Dan) Schwartz, Brittany (Anthony) Gonzalez, Kaley (Max) Vogel, Libby Daltas, and Anne Peckham; great-nephews Ted (Erin) Vanderhorst, Christopher Daltas, James Daltas, John (Fay) Daltas, Daniel (Jenni) Daltas, Michael (Holle) Daltas, Frank (Paula) Viola III, Andrew (Kelsey) Daltas, Alex (Jennifer) Daltas, and Sam (Caitlin) Peckham and many great-grandnieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave St.
Paul, from 5-7 PM on Wednesday April 16th, 2025. Trisagion Prayers begin at 6:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Thursday April 17th, 2025 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1111 Summit Ave, St. Paul, at 11:30 AM with burial immediately following at the Daltas family Plots in ROselawn Cemetery, Roseville.
