BIG SUR >> Search and Rescue personnel in training were at the right place at the right time for one man who was helped at Garrapata State Park over the weekend.

Last Saturday about 9:50 a.m., Monterey County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue deputies and volunteers were conducting acclimatization and medical training at Garrapata State Park when a search and rescue team member discovered a 68-year-old man had fallen about 30 down into a ravine. As a result of the fall, the man sustained injuries, lost consciousness, and was not able to self-extricate himself from his situation.

Search and rescue team members were able to perform a low-angle rope rescue, gain access to the man, and transport him to an awaiting ambulance. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
