Baby moose found near park relocated; ‘not your everyday rescue’
A baby moose was rescued this week from a Colorado Springs neighborhood park and relocated to a more wildlife-friendly habitat outside of the city, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.
State wildlife officers and crews with the Colorado Springs Fire Department responded Tuesday to a baby moose that “found itself in a bit of a sticky situation near Cottonwood Creek Park,” the fire department said.
“Not your everyday rescue call — but when our friends at Colorado Parks and Wildlife call when a bull moose needs help, we show up,” the department wrote on Facebook.
Videos posted by Colorado Parks and Wildlife show firefighters hosing down the overheated moose before the team used a soft stretcher to hoist it into a trailer.
Once the moose arrived at its new home, state wildlife officers gave it a wake-up drug and let it loose in the wild, according to the agency.
Missing helicopter crashed in northwestern mountains
The crashed remains of a helicopter that disappeared Wednesday after departing from a Colorado airport were discovered early Thursday on the Western Slope, according to investigators.
Search parties found the crashed helicopter in “mountainous terrain” near Meeker, in Rio Blanco County, according to the National Transportation Safety Board.
Only the pilot was on board, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
The helicopter took off Wednesday morning from Meeker Airport and was reported missing just after 8 p.m., according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
No update on the pilot’s status was available Thursday, but sheriff’s officials said their “deepest condolences are with the family during this difficult time.”
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
