Resident of Boulder Creek

Our beautiful mother passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025 at Sunshine Villa in Santa Cruz, California. Mabel was born in Petaluma, CA to Harold and Mabel Simpson. In Mabel’s teens she moved to San Francisco, CA where she met Jay Baker. They were married on March 20, 1948 where they moved to their first home in Redwood City, CA.

In 1957, Mabel and Jay moved from Redwood City to Boulder Creek. At that time, they purchased a run-down cabin which they both turned into a beautiful home. Mabel and Jay bought the Boulder Creek Hardware Store in 1963, which they ran for 10 years. After their retirement Mabel and Jay traveled to many places around the world. They had 68 beautiful years together before Jay passed away in 2016.

Mabel kept busy with her beautiful rose garden and all the other flowers she attended to which still remains just as beautiful today. Mom made beautiful crocheted afghans which she shared with all of the family to enjoy for years. She loved to bowl and was in many leagues over the years. Scopazzi’s Restaurant was her favorite place to dine.

Mabel is survived by her three children, Ron Baker of Gold Hill, OR, Karen Moore (Buck) of Stevensville, MT, and Laurie McGregor (Greg) of Ben Lomond, CA; her 6 grandchildren, Eric Baker (Jaime), Chrissy Shepard, Penny Baker, Bob Bauer (Martha), Debbie Bauer-Johnson (Frank) and Michael McGregor (Allison); 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson; a sister Joyce Colhour and brother Hal Raymond and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be held at Scopazzi’s Restaurant 13300 Big Basin Way in Boulder Creek on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from noon to 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Boulder Creek Volunteer Fire Department, 13230 Central Avenue, Boulder Creek, CA 95006.
