FRANKLIN, Tenn.>> Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and possession of a handgun after a minor collision on Thursday.

Cutler, 41, was given a $5,000 bond and was released, according to a statement from the Franklin Police Department.

Police say they responded to an accident and it appeared that Cutler’s vehicle rear-ended another. Officers detected the smell of alcohol on Cutler, who also had blood-shot eyes and was slurring his words, the police said.

Cutler refused a field sobriety test and was taken to a hospital where a blood sample was obtained after getting a search warrant, the release said.

The police said they also found two firearms in the car, including a loaded pistol.

Cutler was also charged with failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision and violating implied consent. All charges are misdemeanors or civil offenses, according to Tennessee law.

Cutler played 12 seasons in the NFL, throwing for 35,133 yards and 227 touchdowns for Denver, Chicago and Miami. He retired after the 2017 season with the Dolphins.

Pearsall TO make debut 50 days after being shot in the chest>> San Francisco 49ers rookie receiver Ricky Pearsall will be activated and make his NFL debut Sunday against Kansas City 50 days after he was shot in the chest.

Pearsall made it through his first week back at practice with no issues and will officially be taken off the non-football injury list, Coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday.

Shanahan didn’t know how long Pearsall would take to get up to speed but was pleased with what he saw during the week of practice for him to play against the defending champion Chiefs at home.

“There was no expectation in that way,” Shanahan said. “I just wanted to see him. We hadn’t seen him out there in a while. Monday I didn’t even really count because it was a walkthrough. But Wednesday he looked great. And Thursday was even better. And today was even more comfortable. So that made the decision pretty easy.”

Pearsall was shot in the chest during a robbery attempt in San Francisco’s Union Square area and was hospitalized overnight. He avoided damage to any organs and nerves.

Raiders WR Meyers expected to miss 2nd game>> Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers is expected to miss his second game in a row because of an ankle injury when Las Vegas visits the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday.

The Raiders are likely to be thin again at the position. Star Davante Adams missed the previous three games because of a hamstring injury and then was traded Tuesday to the New York Jets.

Meyers is second on the team in receiving with 25 catches for 273 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Brock Bowers has 37 receptions for 384 yards and a TD.

Giants WR Nabers has no memory of concussion>> The last thing sensational rookie receiver Malik Nabers remembers prior to his concussion late in the fourth quarter against Dallas on Sept. 26 was New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones throwing the ball in his direction near the sideline.

That’s it. He was hit by Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs as the ball reached his hands in front of the Giants’ bench, was knocked to the ground and hit his head on the artificial surface at MetLife Stadium.

“I mean, it was scary when I couldn’t remember what happened or couldn’t remember, like, the last play I was in,” Nabers said Friday, a day after clearing the NFL concussion protocol. “So, yeah, it was kind of scary.”

Nabers said it was his first concussion. He believes he was knocked out on the play. His symptoms over the past three weeks were headaches and a “throbbing in the head.”

Nabers hopes to play in a game for the first time since the concussion on Sunday when New York (2-4) plays host to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Rams haven’t decided whether Kupp will return Sunday>> The Los Angeles Rams are likely to wait until Sunday to determine whether top receiver Cooper Kupp will return from his ankle injury, coach Sean McVay said.

Kupp was listed as questionable Friday for the Rams’ home game against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Super Bowl 56 MVP hasn’t played since Week 2 for the Rams (1-4).

Kupp returned to practice in a limited capacity this week following Los Angeles’ bye. He racked up 18 receptions in the Rams’ first two games despite injuring his ankle during their blowout loss at Arizona.
