


After splitting their regular-season series, San Domenico and University met one more time Saturday, this time with the Bay Counties League West championship on the line. The Running Red Devils successfully defended their title with a 68-48 victory over the Panthers at Marin Catholic.
After three close hard-fought quarters of play, the Panthers trailed by just five points, but the Red Devils pressed their advantage in the fourth to take control. Senior Kris Jakstas scored 12 points to lead a San Domenico lineup that was struggling with the flu. Junior Stephen Song added 10 points.
The Panthers (20-7) are expecting to see a tough field in the North Coast Section Division III tournament, which begins Tuesday. San Domenico was a semifinalist in the NCS D-V bracket last season.
College baseball
Derek Bartram’s three-run double down the right field line in the third inning powered College of Marin to a 4-0 road win against West Valley on Saturday. Josh Malik followed with a single up the middle to score Bartram. The Mariners (5-6-1) are scheduled to host Skyline on Tuesday.
College softball
Dominican University rebounded to start its second day at the Tournament of Champions as the Penguins topped Cal Poly Humboldt 2-0 Saturday afternoon in Turlock. Nayellys Torres-Gonzalez and Mill Valley’s Kassidy Stetler combined for the shutout allowing five hits as Torres-Gonazlez moved to 2-1 on the season and Stetler collected her second save for the Penguins (6-3). Annabelle Burke had a hand in all the scoring plays for Dominican as she went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
Women’s lacrosse
Dominican University kept rolling Saturday afternoon with a 12-9 home victory over the Griffins of Westminster University to record the Penguins’ second straight NCAA victory. Junior Morgan Newkirk led the Penguins offense with four goals.
Boys tennis
Terra Linda opened the season with a 4-3 non-league victory over San Domenico on Friday. Consisting of a young squad of almost all freshmen and sophomores, the Trojans won Singles 2 & 3 and Doubles 1 & 3.
