The Milwaukee Brewers broke a 33-year-old franchise record for stolen bases in a game Sunday and they needed only four innings.

Milwaukee stole nine bases through the first four innings of its 14-1 home win against the Athletics. The Brewers had stolen eight bases in a 7-2 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Aug. 29, 1992.

Six of Sunday’s steals occurred in the first inning. The Elias Sports Bureau said those were the most stolen bases by a team in an inning since the expansion era started in 1961.

A team has stolen five bases in an inning 13 times since 1961, most recently by Cincinnati against Colorado on April 19, 2016.

The Brewers broke their franchise game record in the fourth inning when Caleb Durbin got his first career stolen base, two days after his major league debut.

No Brewer got caught stealing until the fifth, when catcher Shea Langeliers threw Sal Frelick out at second.

Brice Turang stole three bases. Frelick had two steals. Christian Yelich, William Contreras, Rhys Hoskins and Durbin stole one base each.

Milwaukee’s six first-inning steals included a pair of double steals. The Brewers scored four runs in that first inning by capitalizing on two hits, the six steals, a balk from Jeffrey Springs and two throwing errors by Langeliers to score four runs.

On the first double steal, Langeliers’ throw to third trying to get Turang went into left field, enabling Turang to score and Yelich to reach third. Turang had reached on a single and stole second.

Contreras and Hoskins executed the second double-steal of the inning. Frelick walked later in the first inning and took off for second as Langeliers’ throw went into center. That error allowed Hoskins to score from third.

In the second, Turang drew a walk and swiped second. He took off for third again, but Jackson Chourio swung on the pitch and hit an RBI double to right.

Frelick stole second in the third inning.

ARRAEZ involved in ‘scary’ incident

San Diego’s Luis Arraez returned to the stadium postgame after he was taken to a hospital following a collision with Mauricio Dubón on a play at first base in the first inning of the visiting Padres’ 3-2 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday night.

San Diego manager Mike Shildt said after the game that the situation was the “best case scenario with Luis.”

“Obviously, very scary,” Shildt said. “We think he’s for the most part out of the woods. More time will tell, but the initial testing is very favorable. No fractures of any sort. I mean, he got a little bit of a laceration on his jawline, so we are worried about his jaw. We are worried about his cervical region. Everything was clear, stable on the initial testing.”

Arraez hit a drag bunt on the first pitch of his at-bat, grounding it down the first base line to Christian Walker, who flipped it to second baseman Dubón, who ran over to cover first. As Dubón covered the base, he collided with Arraez, who appeared to hit Dubón’s arm or elbow with his face.

Both players hit the ground, but Arraez took the worst of it, laying motionless in foul territory next to first base as trainers and coaches from both teams came out to tend to him. Arraez was placed on a backboard and carted out of the stadium.

MARLINS’ CONINE OUT

Miami Marlins outfielder Griffin Conine was placed on the 60-day injured list after dislocating his left shoulder Saturday at Philadelphia.

The injury occurred in the sixth inning when Conine dove headfirst into second base on an RBI double.

Conine had emerged as a key contributor, leading the Marlins in slugging percentage (.438) and OPS (.790).
