North Mississippi Allstars bring sound of the Magnolia State
One group even highlights their connection to the Magnolia State in their name. That would be blues and Southern rockers North Mississippi Allstars, who will be playing Moe’s Alley Friday.
North Mississippi Allstars were formed in 1996 by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson and immediately received a Grammy nomination for their debut album “Shake Hands with Shorty.” In keeping with the “Allstars” portion of their name, their albums always feature contributions by other musicians, including Lucinda Williams, Mavis Staples, Jason Isbell, William Bell, Jimbo Mathus from Squirrel Nut Zippers and more. Their latest album, 2022’s “Set Sail,” sees the brothers collaborating with Lamar Williams, Jr., son of the Allman Brothers bassist of the same name.
The concert is 9 p.m. Friday at Moe’s Alley, 1535 Commercial Way. Doors open at 8. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 the day of the show. This is a 21-and-older concert. For more information, go to MoesAlley.com.

Rainbow Girls get dark for ‘Haunting’ tour
The Rainbow Girls are a Bodega Bay folk trio comprised of Erin Chapin, Caitlin Gowdey and Vanessa Wilbourn who met at an open mic event in Isla Vista while students at UC Santa Barbara and relocated to the Bay Area a few years later. They have recorded seven albums, including the 2019 cover album “Give the People What They Want,” featuring renditions of songs by Bob Dylan, John Prine and Alvin Robinson’s “Down Home Girl,” their version of which has racked up more than 3.6 million views on YouTube.
Their seventh album, “Haunting,” was released in October and sees the girls taking on a spookier, more ethereal sound as they ruminate on loss and trauma, and even do a cover of Radiohead’s “Subterranean Homesick Alien.” Those haunting themes carry over into their concerts, which features fog machines and shadow effects as they bring their songs to life. Opening will be Bay Area singer/songwriter Aviva Le Fey.
The concert is 8 p.m. Thursday at Felton Music Hall, 6275 Highway 9. Doors open at 7. Tickets are $32.92 for advance general admission. For more information, go to FeltonMusicHall.com.
