If your Boston Marathon fever hasn’t come down yet, it may be a sign to do a bit of running yourself. Maybe not a 26.2-mile race, but a mile or so will boost mind and body. (A brisk walk is also excellent.)

Whatever your speed, just get outside now that the weather’s delightful. And take the opportunity to grab some new exercise duds.

Sneakers are the clear choice for runners and fast walkers alike, and Asics Unisex Superblast 2 ($199.95 on marathonsports.com) are a spot-on choice. Each step is cushioned with its high stack of premium midsole foam. I don’t believe in boring running shoes, so I say go for a pair in Greyish Purple/Coral Reef or in Wave Teal/Illuminate Mint.

Sometimes you need sneakers that are great for running as well as running errands or hanging out with friends. Throw on a pair of simple and sleek black Brooks Ghost Max 2 ($149 on zappos.com). They’ve got nifty tech features like a glide roll rocker that reduces muscle strain at your ankle joint, and a lace-up closure that makes for a secure fit.

How about embracing your inner preppy? Womens Acorn Trainer ($130 on seavees.com) in Grass Green are ’90s-inspired lightweight sporty trainers. They’re great for low-impact walking, and have a cool and sleek high-to-low profile silhouette and an “acorn treaded” sole (it’s a subtle nod to the brand’s logo inspired by the shape of California’s iconic highway signs).

Now for the clothes. No one needs to wear floppy tracksuits when you’re working hard. So let’s keep things streamlined. One really good top to opt for is the Bandit Running Stamina Scoop Neck Race Crop ($78 on marathonsports.com). It’s remarkably soft and has moisture-wicking capabilities, and a quick-dry finish for superior sweat management, making it a terrific choice for running. Meanwhile, it’s flattering for most any bottom you pair it with in navy, black, and storm gray.

As for those bottoms — go for some that are equally sleek, like the Nike Swift Women’s High-Waisted 7/8 Running Leggings with Pockets ($90 on nike.com). Nike used feedback from runners to highlight functionality with a sweat-wicking design that reduces chafing.

Better yet, there are pockets (three of them) in which to stash your phone, wallet, and (of course) sunscreen.

Rather step into some shorts? The Rabbit Women’s Speed Leggy 4” Running Shorts ($60 on REI.com) are specially designed for comfort while running (i.e. their mid-rise waist never rides up) and are made of quick-drying fabric with moderate compression. And they, too, have two pockets for phones, IDs, a wallet, and whatever else, and come in flattering patterns like skipper blue floral and solids like black and dress blues —that look so good, you may just want to wear them even when you’re not working out.
