Buena Park, CA
Mary Kay “Mickey” Meier – beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, cherished matriarch, and friend – 91, of Buena Park, California passed away surrounded by family at her home on Tuesday morning, January 27th.
Born on May 15, 1934 in Duluth, Minnesota, Mickey was the third child of Douglas and Elizabeth Fancher. She met her husband and life partner Lou in Superior, Wisconsin when she was a freshman in college, bonding through music, dancing, and laughter. They were married on July 11, 1959 in Madison, Wisconsin and then established their home in Buena Park, California, raising their four children and enjoying over 50 years together.
Mickey was a proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, roles she embraced with devotion, patience, and strength. Known for her warm heart and generous spirit, Mickey made people feel welcomed and cared for. Her life was defined in many ways by service and community – from teaching elementary school in Wisconsin and volunteering in California, to teaching religious education programs and singing in the St. Irenaeus church choir for more than a decade.
Her family was her greatest joy, and she took great pride in watching it grow across generations. She is survived by her son, David (Debbie) Meier, daughters Kristin (Fernando) Alvarez, Jayne Randolph, and Mara (Danny) Worrell, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and countless friends who are like family.
Her family thinks fondly of Mickey and Lou once again joined side by side, dancing to Lou’s big band music. We’ll see you again soon Mom, “somewhere over the rainbow.”
Memorial services will be held on Friday, April 10th at 10:00am at St. Hedwig Church, 11482 Los Alamitos Blvd, Los Alamitos. Interment of her ashes following the ceremony will be at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, Orange County Chapter.
