In his upcoming documentary for HBO, Billy Joel reveals that he twice attempted suicide, even landing in a coma, following a messy affair with his best friend’s wife that left him wracked with guilt.
The 76-year-old musician recalls the painful period and the love triangle involving his former bandmate Jon Small and Small’s then-wife, Elizabeth Weber, in “Billy Joel: And So It Goes,” which premiered this week at New York’s Tribeca Festival.
Joel says he was in his early 20s and living with the couple when he fell “in love” with Weber, who would later become his first wife.
“I felt very, very guilty about it. They had a child. I felt like a homewrecker,” Joel says.
Left grieving and without a place to live, Joel says he fell into a downward spiral of heavy drinking, depression and sleeping in laundromats. He then overdosed on sleeping pills and wound up in a coma for days.
That unsuccessful suicide attempt was followed by another when Joel drank a bottle of furniture polish, his sister says.
Perry to auction journey items to aid fire victims
Former Journey singer Steve Perry is auctioning off some pieces in his collection of band memorabilia to help raise funds for Altadena wildfire victims.
The new archival memorabilia platform, Darkives Collectibles, is launching the Steve Perry Archives, with over 50 “never-before-available” pieces on sale. The site says all the musical pieces are graded and authenticated.
A rare signed “JRNEYFAN” New York license plate that was thrown onstage during a New Jersey show had reached $1,175 with 17 bids as of Thursday morning.
“All the proceeds from this archive sale will go to support victims of the Los Angeles fires,” Perry said.
chat GPT nearly derails Tommy Lee’s marriage
Brittany Furlan and rock icon Tommy Lee are back together.
That is the good news.
The bad news is … well, they apparently have a lot a lot to work on. And we know that because Furlan opened up this week about what caused their split.
She was catfished by someone posing online as another rocker.
“All of this happening has weirdly brought us together, which is really strange,” Furlan said on a recent episode of her “This Is The Worst” podcast. Furlan said she started messaging with the catfish because she was “lonely.”
“I was messaging Chat GPT for affection,” she said. “I’m like, ‘It talks to you lovingly and it says nice things to you and it’s sweet to you and if it could kiss me I would let it.’ ”
Furland and Lee have been married for six years.
