CHICO >> Police searched for hours Thursday but were unable to locate a man suspected of fatally shooting another man at the alternate shelter site at Eaton and Cohasset roads.

Gerald “Mikey” Thompson has been identified by police as a suspect in the deadly shooting, according to a news release from the Chico Police Department.

Residents at the alternate camp site at Eaton and Cohasset roads reportedly got into a fight around 10:15 p.m. Monday and one man was shot in the head. Police and first responders arrived and tried to save him, but he died from his wounds.

On Thursday around 1 p.m., detectives were following up their investigation at the scene and learned that Thompson may have been nearby, according to the release.

Police cordoned off the area and shut down Eaton Road between Burnap and Cohasset while they tried to locate him.

After hours of searching, police said in a release around 5 p.m., that he remains at large.

The department asks that anyone who knows where Thompson may be call the detectives division at 530-897-4911. Police also advise that anyone who may see Thompson not approach him but rather call 9-1-1.
