


The Pleasant Valley football team defeated Yuba City 35-0 Friday night in Chico. The Vikings led 28-0 at halftime and 35-0 after three quarters.
PV quarterback Joseph Garcia completed 5 of 8 passes for 105 yards. Tight end Gavin Garretson led PV with three catches for 49 yards and one touchdown.
Seven PV rushers combined to rush for 229 yards and two touchdowns. Lucas Benson led PV in rushing with 83 yards and three touchdowns.
On defense, Damian Nava led PV with nine tackles, Benson had eight tackles and Keith Thompson had an interception.
PV (2-0) now enters its bye week, before hosting Oak Ridge at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 in Chico.
Chico 42, River Valley 14 >> Chico High continued its strong start with a victory Friday night in Yuba City.
The Panthers led 35-0 at halftime and 42-7 after three quarters. The Panthers scored in all three phases — passing, rushing and special teams, a punt return for a touchdown.
Chico High (2-0) plays next at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Yuba City.
Shasta 45, Paradise 6 >> Shasta defeated Paradise on Friday night in Redding. The Wolves led 23-0 at half-time and 45-0 after three quarters.
Paradise scored with three minutes left to play on a rushing touchdown.
Paradise (1-1) continues non-league play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at home against Durham.
Orland 32, West Valley 7 >> After a Week 1 loss, Orland defeated West Valley on Friday in Orland.
The Trojans led 25-0 at halftime and 32-0 after three quarters.
Trojans quarterback Diego Rico completed 4 of 6 passes for 85 yards, in addition to rushing for 45 yards. Lucas Landeros led Orland with 103 rushing yards, and Jaime Albarran and Christian Padilla ran for one touchdown apiece. Seven Trojans combined to rush for 277 yards.
Padilla led the Trojans with eight tackles, Adam Farias had seven tackles, and as a team Orland had two sacks and four interceptions.
Orland (1-1) now enters its bye week, before playing at 7 p.m. Sept. 15 at Shasta.

Butte 1, DeAnza 1 >> The Roadrunners tied DeAnza on Friday at Butte College.
DeAnza led 1-0 at halftime, but Butte’s Bram Bauer scored on a header from a corner kick from Shahin Adwan in the 89th minute to tie the game.
Butte College goalkeeper Noris Iten made two saves.
Women’s soccer
Chico State 2, Regis 1 >> Chico State defeated the Rangers on Friday in Colorado in the Wildcats’ season opener.
Jiana Martin opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal in the 31st minute of the first half. In the 79th minute, the Rangers scored when a handball drew a penalty kick. Chico State goalkeeper Emma Hofmann made the save, but the Rangers scored on a rebound attempt.
Chico State took the lead in the 85th minute, when Avery Pieri passed to her sister Hannah Pieri for the goal.
Hofmann made four saves in the win.
Chico State (1-0) plays next at 11 a.m. Sunday at Colorado School of the Mines. The Wildcats have their home opener at 7 p.m. Thursday against Central Washington.
College volleyball
Chico State at Stanislaus State Invitational >> After opening Friday morning with a 3-1 victory against Fresno Pacific, the Wildcats lost their first match of the season to Western Oregon in Turlock. The Wildcats lost 25-15, 20-25, 25-20, 25-19.
Taylor Whyte led Chico State with 12 kills, Gwyneth Wentzel had eight kills, and Zoe DiNardo had seven kills. Whyte led in aces with two. Brooke Ono led in assists with 34, and DiNardo led in digs with 13.
Chico State (2-1) plays the final game of the Stanislaus State Invitational at 11:30 a.m. Saturday against Western New Mexico. The Wildcats then begin California Collegiate Athletic Association play Sept. 15 at Cal State Los Angeles.
