A Gary man is charged with raping a woman on April 12 while she waited to get her kids from the bus stop in Merrillville.
Howard Lewis, 33, was charged Thursday with one count of rape.
He is not in custody, ordered held on a $5,000 cash bond.
“I’m going to get some (expletive),” Lewis told her, before the assault.
He drove to another part of the parking lot, walked around to the passenger side and assaulted the woman in the car, records allege.
When her children knocked on the window, Lewis had them wait outside for “several minutes,” documents note. She tried to act “like nothing happened,” because she didn’t want them to know she was raped.
The woman told police it was “not the first time” but she didn’t report it, because she was “embarrassed.”
