


Seniors Fernando DaCosta and Seth Jin each had three hits, and Santa Cruz High’s baseball team totaled 11 in its 8-6 nonleague win over Westmont on Friday.
DaCosta had two RBI, and Jin had one RBI and a run scored.
Senior leadoff hitter Damos Deworken had a hit, one walk, two RBI, two stolen bases, and scored three runs for the Cardinals (8-2). August Swanson had two hits and scored one run. Matteo Caltabiano drew two walks, drove in one run, and scored a run.
Winning pitcher Jason Graff gave up two hits, three walks, and one unearned run over five innings. He struck out two batters.
Westmont rallied for four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Morgan Toohey came in and pitched two-thirds of an inning to earn the save.
Peyton Hines had one hit, two walks, and scored twice for the Warriors (2-12-1).
Santa Cruz hosts Wilcox (9-7) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
Monte Vista Christian 8, at North Monterey County 4 >> Tyson Shaw had three hits, including a double, one RBI, two stolen bases, and scored three runs in the Mustangs’ Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division win Friday.
Dante Darnell had three hits and scored a run for MVC (12-3, 5-1). Mikie Melenudo had two hits, including a double, and one RBI. Brady Cortez had a hit, two RBI, and scored a run.
Evan Vessey, Carter Wright, and Gerard Tershey each had a hit and run scored for MVC.
NMC (7-9, 2-4) saw its losing streak reach four. JT Islas had a double, RBI, and run scored for the Condors.
MVC plays at Del Mar (2-11) in San Jose in nonleague action on April 19 at 2 p.m.
High school softball
At Palma 4, Watsonville 3 >> The Chieftains scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a walk-off win in the teams’ PCAL Gabilan Division game at Salinas Sports Complex on Friday.
Audrina Rodriguez had double, RBI, and run scored for the Wildcatz (9-5, 1-3). Ruiz Bella and Esperanza Sigala each had a hit and run scored. Jillian Lerma had a hit and RBI.
Analysia Rocha had two hits, including a home run, and three RBI for the Chieftains (3-6, 1-1).
Watsonville hosts Everett Alvarez (8-8, 1-3) on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
Women’s beach volleyball
Coast Conference DH >> Cabrillo went 1-1 in a conference doubleheader at Hartnell on Friday.
The beat the host Panthers 3-2 and lost 3-2 to Monterey Peninsula (12-6, 9-4).
No. 1 Summer Pederson, a Santa Cruz grad, and teammate Jordan Simpkins, and No. 3 Becca Willemse and Harbor alumna Dakotah Johnson won both of their matches for the Seahawks (13-6, 9-4).
No. 5 Emmy Juarez and Kaitlyn Vanderlinden earned a win against the Panthers (14-8, 8-5).
The Seahawks close the regular season at West Valley (8-11, 7-6) in Saratoga on Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Men’s tennis
UCSC 5, at Piedmont 2 >> No. 1 Andrew Tjoa, No. 2 Radin Sadeghi, No. 5 Benjamin Wang, and No. 6 Praneet Varade earned singles wins for the Banana Slugs in their win In LaGrange, Georgia, on Friday.
No. 2 Mayur Nookala and Sadeghi, and No. 3 Varade and Adam Hidas won doubles matches for the Banana Slugs.
UCSC plays at Emory in Atlanta on Saturday at 1 p.m.
