Two Lake Station men have been arrested and a third man transported to a trauma center by medical helicopter following a Saturday afternoon disturbance in the 1200 block of Chicago Street in Valparaiso, according to police.

Valparaiso Police were called to the 1200 block of Chicago Street about 3:30 p.m. Saturday in response to a report regarding an ongoing disturbance at the residence, according to a news release from E.J. Hall, captain of support services with the Valparaiso police.

When police arrived, they found an injured male who was bleeding from a cut to the right side of his chest. He was taken to a local trauma center by medical helicopter, according to the release.

“The victim is stable and expected to make a full recovery,” Hall said Monday via email.

Police began investigating the disturbance and what led to the victim’s injury. Two Lake Station men, Tavaurus Downs, 19, and Dexter Nalls, 27, were both charged in connection with the incident, a release said.

Downs was charged with battery resulting in a serious bodily injury, and Nalls was charged with battery, the release said. Both Downs and Nalls were transported to the Porter County Jail.

Hall said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

“As far as any additional charges, the case is still open but nothing new at this point,” Hall responded via email.
