



Connor McDavid had four assists and the Edmonton Oilers wrapped up a playoff spot with a 4-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night.
Edmonton is third in the Pacific Division, two points behind the Kings. The Oilers reached the playoffs for the sixth straight season.
Corey Perry gave Edmonton the lead on a power play at 7:32 of the third period. Evan Bouchard, also on a power play, and Ty Emberson had first-period goals, and Connor Brown capped the scoring with an empty-netter in the final minutes.
Calvin Pickard made 22 saves for the victory.
McDavid pushed his assists total to 71. He has 26 goals in 65 games. The Oilers have won two straight since he returned to the lineup after an injury. He’s the third player in NHL history with seven 70-assist seasons, joining Wayne Gretzky (16) and Mario Lemieux (eight).
Oilers top-pairing defenseman Mattias Ekholm and forward Zach Hyman left the game with injuries and did not return. Edmonton also remained without NHL goals leader Leon Draisaitl (undisclosed), forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (illness) and defenseman Jake Walman (undisclosed).
Will Smith and Henry Thrun scored for NHL-worst San Jose. The Sharks have lost eight in a row.
Senators 5, Canadiens 2: Shane Pinto scored twice and the Ottawa Senators prevented Montreal from clinching a playoff spot Friday night, beating the visiting Canadiens.
Ridly Greig had a goal and an assist, and Drake Batherson and Dylan Cozens also scored for playoff-bound Ottawa. Linus Ullmark made 20 saves.
Nick Suzuki and Christian Dvorak scored for Montreal, and Sam Montembeault stopped 28 shots.
The Canadiens hold the second wild card in the Eastern Conference. They needed a regulation win to wrap up a playoff spot Friday.
Red Wings 4, Lightning 3, (OT): Marco Kasper scored his second goal of the game at 3:22 of overtime to give Detroit an overtime victory at Tampa Bay.
Patrick Kane and Tyler Motte also scored for Detroit. Alex Lyon stopped 18 shots to help the Red Wings keep alive their slim playoff hopes.
Gage Goncalves scored twice and Anthony Cirelli had a goal and two points for Lightning. Brandon Hagel had two assists, and Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 22 saves.
Cirelli scored on a partial breakaway 1:01 into the game.
Penguins 4, Devils 2: Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin each had a goal and an assist as Pittsburgh rallied from two goals down and won at New Jersey.
Bryan Rust also had a goal and an assist, Valtteri Puustinen also scored and Matt Grzelcyk had two assists for the Penguins. Tristan Jarry finished with 27 saves as Pittsburgh won for the third time in four games.
