Houston Texans receiver Tank Dell will miss the remainder of the season after dislocating a knee and tearing an ACL in a loss to Kansas City on Saturday.

Coach DeMeco Ryans revealed the details of his injury Monday before announcing that Dell would have season-ending surgery for a second straight year. He fractured his fibula in Week 13 against the Broncos as a rookie last season and had surgery on it the following day.

Dell was injured on a 30-yard touchdown catch in Houston’s 27-19 loss Saturday. He was coming across the back of the end zone and made the spectacular catch on a pass from C.J. Stroud before colliding with Houston teammate Jared Wayne on the way to the ground. Dell immediately grabbed at his knee and was eventually placed on a stretcher and driven in a covered medical cart off the field, and then he was taken to the hospital where he stayed overnight.

Dell, a third-round pick out of the University of Houston last year, ranks second on the team with 51 receptions for 667 yards and three touchdowns.

The Texans claimed former Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Diontae Johnson off waivers.

Johnson began the season with the Carolina Panthers and caught 30 passes for 357 yards and three touchdowns in seven games before he was dealt to Baltimore. The former Pittsburgh Steelers star played in four games for the Ravens, but caught just one pass for 6 yards.

PICKENS HOPING TO PLAY WEDNESDAY

Steelers wide receiver George Pickens was a full participant in practice on Monday, opening the door for him to return from a three-game absence on Wednesday when Pittsburgh hosts the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pickens hasn’t played since tweaking his hamstring earlier this month. The Steelers (10-5) have struggled to generate much in their passing game with their leading receiver watching from the sideline.

Though Monday’s practice was a walkthrough, Pickens said he felt good and hopes he’ll be able to face the Chiefs.

The 23-year-old was going through post-practice drills on Dec. 6 when he felt his hamstring tighten up, forcing him to miss the first games of his three-year career.

BARKLEY EYEING rushing RECORD

Saquon Barkley has more meaningful football to play this season — giving the Philadelphia Eagles running back a better chance at making a serious run at breaking Eric Dickerson’s season rushing record.

Barkley ran for 109 yards and two touchdowns in the first quarter alone and finished with 150 in Sunday’s loss to Washington.

Barkley now leads the NFL with 1,838 yards rushing for the season through 15 games. He still needs two big outings in the final games of the season against Dallas and the New York Giants to top Dickerson and his 2,105 yards for the Rams in 1984.

The 27-year-old Barkley is 268 yards away from passing Dickerson for the season mark and 162 shy from becoming the ninth player in NFL history with 2,000 yards rushing in a season.

Barkley gets an extra shot at the record thanks to a 17th game of the season that Dickerson and the NFL did not have in 1984.

Barkley, who is averaging 122.5 rushing yards per game this season, is a hefty 202 yards ahead of Baltimore’s Derrick Henry.

Former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson ran for 2,097 yards in 2012 and is second on the season rushing list.
