It could turn out to be one of the most critical matchups on the Big 12 Conference schedule. And it’s likely to be an emotional one for Colorado goalie Jordan Nytes.

Nytes will go into a huge showdown at her former collegiate home with another piece of Big 12 hardware.

On Wednesday, Nytes was named the Big 12 goalkeeper of the week for the second consecutive week, and she will be on the cusp of owning the longest scoreless streak in program history when the 19th-ranked Buffs visit No. 12 Oklahoma State on Thursday (6 p.m., ESPN+).

It is Nytes’ third Big 12 weekly honor of the season and the fifth of her career, including two she won as a true freshman two years ago at Oklahoma State. Nytes also won the Pac-12 goalie of the week award twice last season.

Just 29 games into her CU career, Nytes already is climbing the all-time lists among Buffs goalies. She goes into the matchup with her former team with a scoreless streak of 519 minutes, 52 seconds, dating back to a late goal surrendered in an Aug. 18 loss against North Carolina. Nytes has recorded six consecutive scoreless outings since, including an ongoing run of five consecutive solo shutouts. Nytes needs to keep her net clean for another 16:12 to top JJ Tompkins’ record of 536:03.

Nytes is tied for seventh all-time at CU with 20 wins, and she is tied for fifth with 14 shutouts.

The 12th-ranked Cowgirls have raced to an 8-0-1 start behind their own stingy defense, which has yet to surrender a goal this season.

Oklahoma State goalie Grace Gordon has averaged three saves per game. CU (7-1, 1-0 Big 12) is 0-6-3 on the road against ranked foes since its last road win against a ranked team in 2020.

“I think that we’ve been on the road a couple of times, and we’ve been a little battle-tested; we feel good going on the road,” CU head coach Danny Sanchez said in release. “I think we’ll be able to adjust to a different environment quickly on Thursday.”
