Washington’s NFL franchise is set to return to the nation’s capital.

Mayor Muriel Bowser says the District of Columbia and the Commanders reached an agreement to construct a new home for the football team in the city on the site of the old RFK Stadium.

The project will cost the team and city nearly $4 billion, with the Commanders paying $2.7 billion.

The new stadium would open in 2030, with groundbreaking expected next year, pending approval of the Council of the District of Columbia.

Titans sign former Seahawk Lockett

The Tennessee Titans signed veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett, giving rookie quarterback Cam Ward a dependable option as he prepares for his first year in the NFL.

Lockett spent 10 years with Seattle before being released in a cost-cutting move, catching 661 passes for 8,564 yards and 61 touchdowns.

Penguins fire 2x Cup-winning coach Sullivan

Mike Sullivan’s nearly decade-long tenure running the Pittsburgh Penguins is over.

The team announced that it was parting ways with the two-time Stanley Cup winning coach just over a week after the Penguins missed out on the playoffs for a third straight season.

Sullivan’s 409 wins with Pittsburgh are a franchise record. He led the Penguins to back-to-back championships in 2016 and 2017 and had two more years left on his contract.

Bucks confirm Lillard has torn Achilles tendon

Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard has a torn left Achilles tendon that will knock him out for the rest of this postseason.

This type of injury also could put his status for next season in doubt as well.

Kevin Durant tore his Achilles tendon in the 2019 NBA Finals and ended up missing the entire 2019-20 season.

Milwaukee trails Indiana 3-1 in their Eastern Conference first-round series. Game 5 is Tuesday at Indianapolis.

Anderson, former Twin Rosario, back with Braves

Ian Anderson, the winning pitcher in Game 3 of the 2021 World Series, rejoined the Atlanta Braves, a day after he was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels.

Atlanta also signed veteran outfielder Eddie Rosario, optioned outfielder Jarred Kelenic to Triple-A Gwinnett and designated right-hander Zach Thompson for assignment.

A 26-year-old right-hander, Anderson went 0-1 with an 11.57 ERA in seven appearances this season for the Angels, who acquired him in a trade with Atlanta in March. The appearances were his first in the majors since 2022; he had Tommy John surgery the following year.

Rosario, an 11-year veteran, returns for his third stint with Atlanta. He hit 21 homers in 142 games for the Braves in 2023.

Dodgers place Glasnow on 15-day injured list

Right-hander Tyler Glasnow has been placed on the 15-day injured list by the Los Angeles Dodgers with right shoulder inflammation in the latest setback for the defending World Series champions’ perpetually injury-plagued pitching staff.

Glasnow went on the IL one day after leaving his second straight start early due to shoulder discomfort Sunday. He allowed two homers in the first inning against Pittsburgh, but returned to warm up for the second inning before exiting.

The 31-year-old is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA and 23 strikeouts this season.

Schwartz named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

Minnesota softball’s Sydney Schwartz took home the first weekly conference honors of her career when she was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week Monday.

A junior from Victoria, Schwartz went 3-0 with 15 strikeouts and added a save in 16.0 scoreless innings over four appearances to help Minnesota to a 4-0 weekend with a pair of wins over both Pitt and North Dakota. She limited opponents to a .105 batting average.

Grappler McEnelly wins U.S. Open with 6-0 mark

Minnesota’s Max McEnelly won the U20 freestyle 86 kg championship and three others reached the podium to highlight current and future Gophers at this past weekend’s 2025 CLAW U.S. Open Championships in Las Vegas.

McEnelly, who finished third at the NCAA Championships this past year for his first career All-America honors, went 6-0 and outscored opponents, 62-7, yielding points in only two of the six matches.

He prevailed in his first five matches all by tech fall. In the finals, McEnelly defeated Aeoden Sinclair on a late takedown.

Golfer McCauley named All-Big Ten second team

Minnesota women’s golfer Isabella McCauley was named to the All-Big Ten Conference Second Team the league announced.

It is her third all-conference selection in her three-year Golden Gopher career after landing on the second team during both her freshman and sophomore campaigns.

The Inver Grove Heights native earned five top-10 and six top-20 finishes in her junior season and picked up B1G Women’s Golfer of the Week honors in October.

Medved makes additions to his coaching staff

Minnesota head men’s basketball coach Niko Medved has announced the remainder of his staff additions.

Chad Warner and Aaron Katsuma will be assistant coaches, while Joe De Ciman will be men’s basketball’s chief of staff.

Rachel Herndon will serve as the director of operations, and Anthony Holland and Lucas Stieber will be director of player personnel and director of player development.
