



High school golfers at Boulder Creek Golf & Country Club dealt with rain as they teed off and were treated to rainbows by the time they finished their rounds on Thursday.
Host San Lorenzo Valley’s pot of gold came in the form of a narrow, 182-184 win over Aptos to stay unbeaten in Santa Cruz Coast Athletic League action.
The Cougars’ James Dahlen shot 32 and earned medalist honors for the second time this week.
Luke Fontinell (35), Keenan Buntz (37), a three-time medalist this season, Garret Dahlen (38), and Locklin Bischofberger (40) also scored for the defending league champion Cougars (6-0).
“Super proud of these boys,” Cougars coach Luke Dahlen said. “They believe. It’s pretty cool.”
Nick Bjorn (33), Ben Nowark (34), Leland Blankenship (36), Will Bartch (37) and Colby Culbertson (44) scored for the Mariners (4-2).
James Dahlen shot 30 in SLV’s 173-206 win over Soquel on Tuesday at Boulder Creek.
Santa Cruz 209, Scotts Valley 226 >> Tobin McLendon and Cliff Chestnut each shot 36 and shared medalist honors in the Cardinals’ SCCAL win at Delaveaga Golf Course on Thursday.
Sam Wickens (39), Santi Toledo (48), and Romain Minasian (50) also scored for the Cardinals (3-2).
Adrian Creamer (40), Seamus Drees (41), Brogan Beasley (47), Noah Tripp (49) and Zane Siechen (49) scored for the Falcons (1-4).
Soquel 204, Harbor 217 >> Defending league champion Kaden Dunton of the Pirates shot 35 for medalist honors, but the Knights won the SCCAL match at DeLaveaga G.C. on Thursday.
Mateo Adolfo (38), Peter Robberloth (39), Cole Christensen (39), Malekai More (42), and Kyle Lambretchs (46) scored for the Knights.
Gunther Krueger (42), Kyler Samples (44), Niko Marinovick (48), and Jake Locknane (48) also scored for the Pirates.
Boys volleyball
Santa Cruz 3, at Harbor 1 >> Outside hitter Julien Pally led the offensive attack, and the Cardinals earned a 25-17, 25-11, 23-25, 25-22 win in SCCAL play Thursday.
Pally made some big blocks late in the first set, and James Bush and Leo Sapunor slowed down Harbor’s offense in the second set.
“Nathan Monroe came in midway through the set and brought a lot of energy with him, connecting with Gammon Nilssen for some fiery kills,” said Peter Edwards, of the Cardinals’ late surge in the second set.
The third set was a backyard brawl as the teams engaged in several long rallies, some featuring three to five diving saves, both off of the court and into bleachers.
Senior Ozzie Hoffmanfriedes brought Santa Cruz back to life in the middle of the fourth set with his service run, and Pally sealed the win with some timely aces.
Harbor (17-2, 5-1), Soquel, and Aptos will host Surf City Invitational, which begins Friday at 5 p.m. and begins Saturday at 8 a.m. and runs all day.
At the outset of bracket play on Saturday, tournament officials will play tribute to late longtime official Mark Brewer, who died in his sleep on Thursday.
SLV 3, Scotts Valley 0 >> The Cougars earned a 25-11, 25-14, 31-29 sweep in SCCAL play Thursday.
Junior setter/opposite Will Shanks had three kills, three digs and seven assists for the Falcons. Junior setter/opposite Marlon Meissner had four assists and five digs. Sophomore outside hitter Ben Luckey had two kills and eight digs.
High school softball
At SLV 16, Harbor 2; 5 inn. >> Bailey Filice had three hits, one walk, three RBI, and scored a run in the Cougars’ SCCAL win Thursday.
Grace Purtcher had two hits, three RBI, and scored three runs. Olive Colby and Savanna Robertson each scored three runs. Sophia Sarmiento drove in three runs. Elie Colby and Audrey Jouglet each had a hit, one RBI, and scored twice.
Hana Pomrantz had two of the Pirates’ four hits. Malibu Dominguez and Sofia Monroe each had a hit and scored a run.
Winning pitcher Elie Colby struck out six batters over three scoreless innings.
On Tuesday at 4:30 p.m., SLV (5-4, 3-0) plays at Santa Cruz, and Harbor (1-5, 0-3) plays at Aptos.
Aptos 14, at Soquel 8 >> Emma Burgueno had three hits, five RBI, and scored a run in the Mariners’ SCCAL win Thursday.
Eleven of Aptos’ 17 hits went for extra bases. Makenzie Lashley had three hits, including a double and a home run, two RBI, and scored a run. Bailey Fulton homered, drew two walks, had two RBI, and scored three runs. Lilly McGee homered and drove in three runs. Lanies Nunez had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run.
Kylie South and Emma Niizawa each had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice for the Knights. South tripled, and Niizawa had two doubles. Ellie Howell had two hits and scored twice.

At Watsonville 13, Gonzales 11 >> The Wildcatz scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and rallied for the win in Pacific Coast Athletic League Cypress Division play Thursday.
Rudy Valdez had four hits, including a double, two RBI, three stolen bases, and scored twice for the Wildcatz. Kaden Ortiz had two hits, including a double, three RBI, and scored twice. Mathew Silva, Patrick Miller-Brown, and Timothy Ruelas each had two hits and two runs scored. Ruelas also had one RBI and Silva had three stolen bases. Ben Miller had two hits and one RBI, and Miles Serrano-Osario had two hits, including a double, and a run scored.
Watsonville (2-9, 2-0) hosts Pajaro Valley (1-5, 0-2) on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Malakai DuBreuil had two of the the Seahawks’ six hits.
Tucker Biehl had a hit and two RBI for the Renegades (24-4, 7-1).
Matthew Foley walked one batter and struck out six in his complete-game win. Losing pitcher Oscar Knapp gave up three hits, five walks, and five runs, three earned, over five innings while striking out four batters.
Cabrillo (10-17, 3-5) plays at Ohlone on Saturday at 1 p.m.

San Mateo 13, at Cabriilo 0; 5 inn. >> The Seahawks had just two baserunners in their Coast Conference loss Thursday.
Tehya Cruz-Abair had the Seahawks’ lone hit, and teammate Charileen Pauneto drew a walk.
Hannah Ames walked, doubled, homered, had three RBI and scored twice for the Bulldogs (26-2, 6-1).
Winning pitcher Gianna Tassio struck out six batters, and walked one in her complete-game outing. Danielle Keller gave up 10 runs, six earned, over four innings and took the loss.
Cabrillo (2-25-1, 0-7) hosts Hartnell (15-10-1, 4-2) on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Men’s tennis
At Fresno Pacific 5, UC Santa Cruz 2 >> Graduate student Adam Tjoa and sophomore Benjamin Wong earned singles wins but the Division III Banana Slugs lost to the D-II Sunbirds on Thursday.
Tjoa beat Emilio Seelbach 7-5, 2-6, 10-5 at No. 4, and Wong beat Sven Bangert 6-3, 6-2 at No. 5.
UCSC (4-7) plays at D-II Menlo (4-5) in Atherton on Saturday at 10 a.m.
