Kay Stark was born in Long Beach, California to parents Frances and William Boyd.

She graduated from Poly High School, Long Beach City College, Long Beach State, and earned a Master's degree from Azusa Pacific University. Her involvement at Long Beach State included being on the student council and a member of Alpha Phi sorority.

Early on she knew teaching was in her future. Her grandmother, mother, sister and brother were all teachers. Her son Mark followed her footsteps and taught in Whittier.

Music and sports played an important part of her life. She played the piano, violin, and sang. She played tennis, softball, volleyball and basketball through college and spent untold hours on various sports sidelines cheering her children in their activities.

Most of the thirty-eight years of teaching were spent in the East Whittier School District. She had fond memories of her fellow teachers, students, and the many parents she had met over the years.

She is survived by her two children: Matthew and Mark; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

There will be no service and her remains will be spread over the Pacific Ocean, a place that has always been special to her.
