SAN JOSE >> A company with a unique approach to helping people move or store their belongings has bought a large vacant lot in San Jose that’s suitable for development.
Zippy Shell, acting through an affiliate, bought the property at 1551 Industrial Ave. for $12 million, documents filed Monday with the Santa Clara County recorder’s office show.
The site, which is next to a FedEx logistics and warehouse building, totals 3.8 acres and is near the interchange of Interstate 880 and Gish Road, assessment documents show.
LBA Realty sold the site to the Zippy Shell affiliate. LBA bought the property in 2021 for $4 million.
During that same year, LBA bought a much larger adjacent site where it developed an industrial, logistics, delivery and warehouse building. In 2021, LBA leased that building to FedEx. LBA occupied the site in 2022.
Similar to other moving services such as PODS, Zippy Shell delivers a secure portable storage container directly to a customer’s location. It then gives the customer a few days to load up the container.
Once the items are packed, Zippy Shell delivers the items or takes them to a temporary storage unit.
“We can store it in one of our nationwide secure facilities until you’re ready to have it delivered to you,” Zippy Shell states on its website.
It wasn’t immediately clear how Zippy Shell intends to use the recently purchased San Jose site.
