San Marino
Jean Meaglia Shives, 99, of San Marino, passed away peacefully at home on May 27, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Born on October 23, 1924, in Los Angeles to parents Katie and Dominic Meaglia, Jean graduated from Sacred Heart High School and then attended the University of Southern California where she graduated with a degree in business.
After graduation, Jean joined the family business and worked along side her father at the American Foundry in Los Angeles. There she met the love of her life, Clyde Shives. They were married in 1963 and moved to San Marino with his two daughters that same year.
Jean created a wonderful and fulfilling life for her family.
She enjoyed traveling, interior design and entertaining her family and friends.
Her greatest pleasure, however, was being a mother to her two daughters and then a loving grandmother to her granddaughter Katie, the light of her life. She was a wonderful aunt to her many nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to her as "Jeanie Bean". She will live on in each of us who knew and loved her.
Jean's family is forever grateful for her long and love filled life. Her legacy of generosity, caring and kindness will forever be remembered fondly by her family and friends.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents, sister Virginia Sbicca and her husband of 48 years, Clyde Shives.
Jean is survived by her two daughters, Melanie Shives and Marla Shives Lytle (Dan) and her granddaughter Katie Lytle Kingan (Steven).
A private interment will be held at Forest Lawn in Glendale followed by a celebration of Jean's life with her close family at the San Gabriel Country Club.
"A mother is with us always, first in her lifetime, then forever in our memory."
