DETROIT >> Tigers fans are watching. A lot.

The Tigers, through June 9, have drawn an average rating of 4.46 on linear FanDuel Sports Detroit broadcasts, ranking second in Major League Baseball, the team announced Friday.

Through June 9, the Tigers’ linear (non-streaming) broadcasts also had seen an 82% jump from the same point last season, which also ranks second in MLB. It is worth noting, at this same point last season, the Tigers’ TV network, then Bally Sports Detroit, was in the middle of a two-month blackout on Comcast, amid a contract dispute that left hundreds of thousands of Tigers fans in the dark.

Still, the Tigers’ total linear impressions this season rank fifth in MLB, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers, New York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies and New York Yankees.

The Tigers also have seen significant growth in fans watching on streaming services, with unique streamers increasing 93% from the same point last season. The Tigers set a FDSND record for streamers watching a game on June 3 game against the Chicago White Sox.

The Tigers’ 2025 broadcast viewership shows signs of the team’s heyday, from 2006-14, when the team was regularly drawing some of the best ratings in the sport.

The viewership numbers come in a year when the Tigers have taken more control of the broadcasts, a concession as FDSND’s parent network, Main Street Sports Group, emerged from bankruptcy and re-upped with the team for a significantly decreased rights fee.

The Tigers have brought in a new producer and director for game broadcasts this season, at a time when Diamond has significantly slimmed down its production staff.

This is the second year of Jason Benetti as the TV play-by-play man, and Andy Dirks has emerged as the lead analyst.

The Tigers are 45-25 entering Friday night’s game against the Cincinnati Reds, for the start of a three-game series at Comerica Park that is expected to be well-attended though not necessarily to the levels of the 121,000-plus who attended last weekend’s series against the Chicago Cubs.

At this point last season, the Tigers were a middling 32-35, before a late-season surge that got them into the postseason for the first time since 2014.
