The science behind climate change
Re “Trump fires 400 climate scientists in one hot day” (May 4):
Praise to your columnist Larry Wilson who pointed out that Mr. Trump and DOGE have severed the public payroll of some 400 scientists who were paid over the last 25 years for telling us sweating masses about the dangers of climate change.
Mr. Wilson however didn’t mention whether these sinecures were in perpetuity or how many millions were paid to these people.
Did they have oversight or supervision or did they most likely receive lavish pay whether they contributed or not?
Once a government program starts, it never ends. But thanks to President Trump, these scientists will have to find other con games ways to pay for their second homes and lavish lifestyles.

Stop the rail project that continues to go nowhere
Re “High-speed rail project plans to downsize massive stations” (May 3):
“Massive” stations? This ongoing bad joke never ceases to amaze. A totally worthless section of an unnecessary cash drain probably requires only Port-a-Potties rather than “massive” stations.
Why aren’t we getting rid of this folly, not downsizing “massive” stations?
The hubris of the high speed rail administration is incredible and it should be sent a message that the taxpayers will not support this nonsense any longer.

Lights out on going green
Re “Can the enviros keep the lights on?” (May 4)
It should have been lights out decades ago when Gore said we’d all be gone by 2000.
Now, it’s always 12 years away. No matter when they say it. Meanwhile, Californians are told to drive EVs, not use natural gas water and air heaters, don’t drive to work but take public transport, live in neighborhoods with multi-families with no parking and anything else they want to make us miserable while they live in $6 million mansions in Sacramento and I’m rather sure they have full water pressure.
People that still fall for this stuff are utterly ignorant of what goes on all around us. Another well-written, interesting and factual piece from Susan Shelley. Hard to call her pieces opinion.
