Merrillville’s Jonas Salk Elementary was among 220 schools in 38 states to receive a $5,000 grant from the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries.

The foundation awarded more than $1 million in grants this year, according to a release.

Katy McKnight is Salk’s library coordinator and Nicholas Petralia is the principal.

The release said many libraries will use the funds to update and diversify their collections.

The next round of library grant applications for the 2025-2026 school year will open in late 2025. Visit bushcenter.org/laurabushfoundation to learn more.
