Reading a physical paper is becoming a luxury
I can sympathize with fellow Boomer letter writer, who has reluctantly given up his subscription to the printed Camera. The recent series of eye-popping rate increases has made the luxury of a physical paper less and less affordable. Yet I hope to continue to fund my subscription and the outstanding work of hardworking local reporters like Amber Carlson and editor Gary Garrison because I want to read about what’s going on in my community without having to stare at a computer or my phone.
I have dropped all the extra editions and asked that I not be given the complimentary Denver Post on Sunday (which seems to be a not-so-subtle gesture to persuade me to give up my local paper). While I think Prairie Mountain Publishing is committed to local journalism, I have no such illusions about its holding company, Alden Global Capital, whose goal of increasing profit for its shareholders is accomplished through cutting costs by reducing the number of journalists working on many of its newspapers.
As the cold weather sits in, I look forward to the comforting ritual of coffee, paper and a fire in the fireplace. Comforting rituals are an essential part of my mental health!

To be a great team, CU must become better sports
Dear Coach Prime: Congratulations on another win for the 2024 season. This is a good team, however, CU could become a great team by eliminating the thugball, trash talk, cheap shots, showboating, taunting, etc. Until those are coached out of the players and in the rearview mirror the Buffs will continue to be a good team though not great.

Thanks to Colorado for staying solidly blue
Thank you, Colorado, for holding the blue line and even becoming a little bluer. Colorado’s propensity to have informed voters accounts for much of that. Thank you, Colorado, for nullifying all the in-state votes for Donald Trump. Colorado accounted for no votes in his Electoral College total. It was like they never existed. It is the third time that Colorado has rejected this meritless miscreant. I am delighted that my native state shows so much integrity and decency. Thank you, Colorado. Thank you for firmly installing in our state’s constitution a woman’s right to control their own body. The U.S. is not the republic of Gilead — yet!
Ben Franklin said, “We have a Republic, if we can keep it.” Republicans love to remind us that this is a republic and not a democracy. What Trump proposes does not fit the definition of a republic. Ben would probably say, by electing Trump, we have already lost our republic.
When Trump shows us his incompetence, when the deficit is soaring, and when the economy is in the dumpster, and Putin and the boys are stealing his lunch money, I will gladly and repeatedly tell you I told you so.
When you voted for Trump, you voted for no changes to the Israeli-Gaza war. Trump loves Benjamin Netanyahu. Your vote sealed Ukraine’s fate. Trump loves Putin.
Your vote for Trump jeopardized Taiwan and our access to their computer chips. Trump thinks “he has a very strong relationship with Xi.” Trump does not possess the capacity to negotiate with the inscrutable Chinese; they will twist him into a pretzel.
Thomas Jefferson said, “The government you elect is the government you deserve.” I think Republicans just elected a government that they deserve, but why do the rest of us have to pay for their folly?
