MaryAnn Van Langen of Longmont passed away peacefully at her home on July 21st, surrounded by her loving family.
MaryAnn Hage was born July 15th, 1933 to parents Almer and Anna Hage in Jewell, Iowa.
She was the youngest of 5 children, four sisters and one brother. She grew up in Jewell, graduating from Jewell High School in 1950.
She met her husband, Donald Van Langen in the summer of 1954 at the Shady Oaks Club in Webster City, Iowa.
They were married that following year on June 5th, 1955.
MaryAnn and Don loved raising their 2 boys, Craig born in 1957 and Brad in 1963.
She gave birth to an infant daughter, Katherine who lived for just 3 days in 1961.
Don was a high school principal star ting in Toledo and then Newton, Iowa. In 1972 they made the decision to move to Longmont, Colorado where Don became an assistant principal at Longmont High School until his untimely death in 1983.
MaryAnn was the front office secretary at Longmont Estates Elementary from 1976 to her well earned retirement in 2001.
There, she became a much loved and respected staff member by principals, teachers, parents and students.
Her retirement years were spent traveling with friends, playing in several bridge clubs and loving her grandchildren and in her last years, her great grandchildren. She was a Charter member of Chapter GH of P.E.O. and a long time member of Westview Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Don, her son Brad and her infant daughter, Katherine.
Also by her four siblings, Arlene Smith of Monticello, Iowa, Charlotte Silkebaken of Belle Plaine, Iowa, Lavera Johnson of Coronado, California, and Bud Hage of Charles City, Iowa.
She is survived by her son, Craig Van Langen and wife Laura of Longmont, granddaughter Ashley Williams and Lee of Johnstown, grandson Jeff Van Langen of Longmont, and great grandchildren Beau and Chandler Williams of Johnstown also by many nieces and nephews in Iowa and elsewhere.
She is also survived by her 2nd family, LouAnn and Steve Gorenstein of Longmont, Annie, John, Adam and Lincoln Falkenberg of Frederick and Marc, Samantha, and Sage Gorenstein of Morrison.
I know Mom would also wish to thank her oncologist, Dr. Barnett and all of the staff at Rocky Mountain Cancer Center and the incredibly compassionate staf f at Trail Winds Hospice for their care in her final days.
A celebration of life for MaryAnn will be held at Westview Presbyterian Church at 3:00 PM, Monday, August 5th, with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in her name to Trail Winds Hospice of Boulder or the American Cancer Society.
