1000s have to flee
Fierce flames driven by a howling windstorm set hillsides ablaze in Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, destroying homes, forcing the evacuation of thousands of residents and blackening skies with smoke. The fire grew too quickly for crews to keep pace with and tied up traffic in areas where residents were fleeing the flames. More powerful winds were expected into the evening.
