


Penny Hemp scored in overtime to lift the Gophers women’s hockey team to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Minnesota State in a WCHA game in Mankato, Minn.
Minnesota (20-5-1, 14-5-1) swept the home-and-home series against the Mavericks (10-17-0, 4-16-0), winning 4-3 in Game 1 on Friday night in Minneapolis.
The Gophers struck first on Saturday, with Josefin Bouveng scoring the first goal of the game late in the first period. Mankato scored midway through the third period to send the game to overtime, where Hemp ended it 54 seconds into the extra period.
Skylar Vetter made 15 saves in the Minnesota goal to secure the victory.
BEMIDJI STATE 4, ST. THOMAS 2 >> Alyssa Watkins’ second goal broke a 2-2 tie and the Beavers (4-20-2, 3-16-1 WCHA) beat the Tommies (8-18-1, 2-17-1) in Bemidji, Minn.
