Newberg, OR

Sylvia was born in Stuttgart, Germany on August 22, 1954 and passed away peacefully on February 5, 2023 in Portland, Oregon at the age of 68. She was adopted at the age of 4 from a German Kinderheim by Colonel Harry Balish and Elverda Farnham-Balish with whom she traveled all over the country, before settling in Woodland, CA. She attended Holy Rosary School and was a 1972 Woodland High School graduate where she met her future husband Lewis Danielson. Lew and Sylvia were married in 1974 and moved to the Portland, Oregon area where their daughter Aimee Lou was born.

Sylvia graduated from Portland State University and used her artistic talents to start a successful screen printing business, Avid Design. She was an integral part of the Textile Art Department at the Oregon School of the Arts and Crafts. Sylvia encouraged Aimee’s love of the theater by selflessly giving her time and talents to the Beaverton High School drama department, making costumes, props, and sets. She also created elaborate award winning Halloween costumes for her and Lew.

Sylvia loved to travel with her husband, and shop all over the world. In addition, she looked forward to her frequent trips to Woodland to visit family and friends.

She was a fun, generous and loving person who took great joy in helping others. She had an infectious smile that would light up a room, and a mischievous laugh.

She was the life of the party.

In 2008, Sylvia and Lew moved to Newberg, Oregon to enjoy the rural country lifestyle, where Sylvia enjoyed her large gardens, canning her fruits, and making new life-long friends.

Sylvia will be dearly missed by her husband, Lew, daughter, Aimee Germany and her husband Jason, family and friends. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 am on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, 860 West Street, in Woodland, CA. A reception to follow at the Historic Hotel Woodland, 436 Main Street (back parking lot entrance) Woodland, CA. A celebration of life will also be held in the Portland Oregon area at a future date. In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.
