Long Beach Airport has received another top ranking, this time landing as No. 2 in the country out of 50 similarly sized airports.

That’s according to an analysis done by reporters at The Washington Post who surveyed more than 2,300 readers and collected data on around 450 airports to build out their list of the best airports in America.

“Our list started with more than 450 airports that served at least 1,000 passengers last year,” The Washington Post said. “We narrowed it to the top 50, then dug up more data like gate capacity and parking.”

Long Beach Airport came in at No. 2 on the list for its size. With just 11 gates and three airlines, The Washington Post said, Long Beach Airport is easy to navigate and get in and out of, a far cry from the hustle and bustle of its neighbor, LAX. Portland International Airport, in Oregon, was the only similarly sized airport to beat out Long Beach.

The Washington Post also cited Long Beach Airport’s special offerings, like its free summer concert series and viewing area for plane spotters, alongside its food and drink options.

It also helps, The Washington Post added, that Long Beach Airport has undergone several upgrades in recent years.

Alongside its newly upgraded ticketing lobby and baggage claim facility, the airport also recently completed a series of improvements to its roadway terminal and recently reopened its renovated and restored Historic Terminal, which boasts mosaics dating back to World War II.

“Long Beach Airport is honored to be recognized by The Washington Post for our cool and convenient service,” airport Director Cynthia Guidry said in a news release. “It’s a compliment to all of our business partners and staff who strive to deliver the best passenger experience.”

The airport is no stranger to such recognitions, having also been included on Condé Nast Traveler magazine’s list of top 10 airports in the country in both 2023 and 2024.
