No. 7 UConn ends No. 4 S. Carolina’s 71-game home win streak

COLUMBIA, S.C.>> — Azzi Fudd scored 28 points and No. 7 UConn ended No. 4 South Carolina’s 71-game home winning streak with an 87-58 victory Sunday.

Sarah Strong added 16 points and 13 rebounds for the Huskies (24-3), who had lost their past four to the Gamecocks. UConn took control late in the opening quarter and was up by 22 points by halftime.

Uncharacteristically, defending champion South Carolina could not respond and lost for the first time at home since North Carolina State beat the Gamecocks 54-46 on Dec. 3, 2020. That ended the fourth longest home winning streak ever in women’s Division I basketball history.

Fudd followed up a career-best 34-point performance in a win over St. John’s this Wednesday by torching the Gamecocks. She had six of UConn’s 13 3-pointers, including four in the third quarter to close off any South Carolina hope of a comeback.

Joyce Edwards had 17 points to lead South Carolina (23-3).

No. 1 UCLA 75, No. 22 Michigan State 69>> Janiah Barker scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals as top ranked UCLA won at home. Timea Gardiner scored 18 from the bench for the Bruins.

No. 3 Texas 65, No. 5 LSU 58>> Madison Booker scored 16 points, including four consecutive free throws in the final 24 seconds, and No. 3 Texas overcame a woeful shooting start to rally at home. Texas was just 7 of 37 shooting in the first half.

No. 6 USC 69, at Washington 64>> Kiki Iriafen scored 19 points and No. 6 USC rallied to beat Washington. JuJu Watkins had 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists for the Trojans (23-2, 13-1 Big Ten).

USC shot just 29% from the field in the first three quarters, before going 11 for 16 in the fourth.

No. 8 Kentucky 84, Georgia 55>> Georgia Amoore scored 21 points to lead No. 8 Kentucky to a home win. Amoore, a senior, made three 3-pointers and led the Wildcats with 15 points in the first half to help the Wildcats (20-4, 9-3 SEC) snap a two-game losing streak and complete a regular-season sweep of the Bulldogs.

No. 12 North Carolina 66, No. 10 N.C. State 65>> Grace Townsend made two go-ahead free throws with 5.2 seconds left and No. 12 North Carolina came up with a final-play stop to edge visiting No. 10 N.C. State.

No. 11 TCU 85, Arizona 73>> Sedona Prince scored 22 points on 9-of-11 shooting and grabbed 12 rebounds to help No. 11 TCU win at Arizona.

No. 15 Tennessee 80, Mississippi 71>> Jewel Spear matched her season-high with 28 points and the No. 15 Tennessee women jumped out to an early lead they never surrendered, knocking off Mississippi.

No. 16 Oklahoma 82, Missouri 66>> Payton Verhulst scored 15 points, four teammates also scored in double figures, and No. 16 Oklahoma dominated the second half to win at Missouri.

Georgia Tech 73, Wake Forest 62>> Kara Dunn scored 22 points, including nine in the final five minutes, and No. 19 Georgia Tech finished strong to defeat Wake Forest in Atlanta.

No. 23 Florida State 83, Miami 82 >> Makayla Timpson’s layup with three seconds left allowed No. 23 Florida State to escape Miami with an 83-82 win over the Hurricanes.

Wichita State shocks No. 14 Memphis in 84-79 overtime win

WICHITA, Kan.>> Quincy Ballard scored 14 of his 19 points in the second half and overtime to help Wichita State beat No. 14 Memphis 84-79 on Sunday.

Bijan Cortes hit a 3 to give the Shockers a 78-77 lead with 1:10 remaining in OT. Wichita State never relinquished the lead from that point.

Wichita State (15-10, 5-7 AAC) won its fourth-straight game and first over a ranked opponent in the regular season since 2021. The Shockers had five players in double figures. Corey Washington had a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Tigers (21-5, 11-2) saw their eight-game winning-streak end. Tyrese Hunter led the Tigers with 24 points. Moussa Cisse had a double-double for Memphis with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Wichita State took a 32-28 lead into halftime highlighted by an 11-3 run in the final 5:28 of the opening 20 minutes.

Ronnie DeGray III hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 71-71 with 18 seconds left for the Shockers to force overtime. The Tigers scored the first four points in OT before the Shockers took over.

NO. 9 ST. JOHN’S 79, NO. 24 CREIGHTON 73>> RJ Luis Jr. had 23 points and 14 rebounds to help No. 9 St. John’s strengthen its grip on first place in the Big East with a victory over visiting No. 24 Creighton. The Red Storm (22-4, 13-2) lead the Bluejays (18-8, 11-4) by two games.

NO. 20 MICHIGAN 86, OHIO STATE 83>> Vladislav Goldin had a critical putback basket with 52 seconds left as part of a 20-point, 10-rebound performance as No. 20 Michigan held off host Ohio State. Danny Wolf had 17 points and 11 rebounds for Michigan (20-5, 12-2).

NO. 25 MARYLAND 101, IOWA 75>> Ja’Kobi Gillespie scored 26 points, and No. 25 Maryland scored its most points in a Big Ten game since entering the league a decade ago, routing visiting Iowa.
