Sandy was born to Yutaka "Ernie" and Sadayo "Sue" Ishimaru in San Jose. She grew up in Mountain View and graduated from Mountain View High in 1969. She continued her education at San Jose State, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She excelled as a home health nurse with the Visiting Nurse Association of Santa Clara County. Sandy loved photographing her travels, especially to Disneyland, and discovering new foods with family and friends; leading to her passion for scrapbooking.

Sandy passed peacefully at home, after a long illness, with family by her side. She is survived by her husband of 38 years, Martin, son James (Sharon), daughter Allison (Keith), and sister Gail (Tom) Osaki.
