Detroit Catholic Central got the game-winning goal out of senior Lachlan Moffatt in overtime to beat Brother Rice 12-11 in Saturday’s CHSL Bishop title game.
The Villanova-bound Moffatt made a long run clockwise around the back of the net, cut in front of the goal and put it in himself midway into OT to give the unbeaten Shamrocks (17-0) the win.
Margins had been similarly miniscule when the Catholic League rivals had met back on April 8 in Bloomfield Hills and Catholic Central picked up a 10-9 victory.
Saturday’s win required the Shamrocks to produce a comeback after being down two goals to start the fourth. Moffatt used a screen and scored in a relatively identical way to make it a one-goal contest with just under 8:30 remaining. Connor Lukas weaved through the midfield and around two defenders to produce a shot that was stopped, then Luke Zajdel whipped in the rebound to tie it up with about 3:30 left in regulation.
