Classes in massage proposed at church

A massage school is seeking a permit to operate at the Fairfax Community Church at 2398 Sir Francis Drake Blvd.

The Marin School of Massage and the Healing Arts proposes to hold classes about 26 evenings and 26 weekends a year. The classes would be geared toward people seeking professional certfication from the California Massage Therapy Council.

The Day Caring Preschool operates at the church on weekdays, and a food pantry operates there on Saturdays, according to a staff report by Linda Neal, a town planner.

The Planning Commission has set a public hearing on the permit application for 7 p.m. Thursday at the Fairfax Women’s Club at 46 Park Road.

ADU, septic system sought for property

The county has scheduled a hearing this week on a residential construction plan in Point Reyes Station.

The proposal involves 60 Third St., a parcel owned by the Community Land Trust Association of West Marin, according to the county planning office. The association wants to build a 186-square-foot accessory dwelling unit detached from the residence on the property. It also wants to install an onsite wastewater treatment system.

A deputy zoning administrator will hold a hearing on the plan at 10 a.m. Thursday in room 328 of the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael.

Commission backs additions to home

The Planning Commission has approved a residential expansion project in the Chapman Park neighborhood.

The proposal calls for adding 589 square feet to the first floor and 259 square feet to the second floor of the two-story house at 515 Oakdale Ave., according to the town planning office.

The commission held a hearing on the project at its meeting on April 8.

Animal care nonprofit plans family event

WildCare, a San Rafael nonprofit that treats injured animals, is planning a “family nature day” this month in Tiburon.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 26 at the Richardson Bay Audubon Center and Sanctuary at 376 Greenwood Beach Road. Participants can join a naturalist-led hike, meet animals, watch birds from the Lyford House and dissect owl pellets.

Admission and street parking are free.
