George Douglas Hayes passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 14, 2024 at the age of 79. Doug, as he was affectionately known by his friends and family, was born on September 29, 1945 to George and Vivian Hayes. He graduated from Esparto High School in 1963.
He married Violet Spence in 1964 and they had three children. He worked for Barber Roland/Wilbur Ellis for 32 years as a field man then worked for Syar Industries for 10 years as an equipment operator before retiring in 2010.
Doug was a Capay Valley legend with an infectious laugh and loving personality. He was a man of many skills and could often be found working on farming equipment and operating his dozers in the hills. He was an accomplished hunter, rancher, and a lover of music; but his true joy came from spending time with his family in the hills.
Doug is survived by his longtime girlfriend, Barbara; his children, Matthew (Diane), Michael (Kimberly), & Marci; his grandchildren Brysan, Taylor, Dustin, and James; and his great-granddaughter, Hayden. He is preceded in death by his brother, Donald, and sister, Theresa.
A celebration of life will be held on January 18, 2025 at 1pm at the Rumsey Hall. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
