Metallica is teaming up with the American Red Cross to launch a nationwide blood drive campaign just in time for their summer tour — and fans who donate at select stops, including Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, can walk away with a limited-edition Metallica X Red Cross T-shirt.
The campaign, organized in collaboration with the band’s nonprofit foundation, All Within My Hands, encourages concertgoers and community members to roll up their sleeves to help combat blood shortages and ensure hospital patients don’t have to wait for lifesaving care. At some tour stops, blood drives will even take place inside the stadium while Metallica’s crew is building the stage.
Though Metallica was originally formed in Los Angeles in 1981, the band has long called the Bay Area home. The group moved north in the early 1980s and has remained based in the Bay Area for most of its career. Founding members Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield both lived in Marin County for years before moving out of California.
While the exclusive T-shirt is only available at blood drives hosted at certain Metallica tour venues — including Levi’s Stadium, where the band will perform on June 18 — North Bay residents can still support the cause by donating at local Red Cross centers in Sonoma and Napa counties.
Fans attending the Santa Clara show should check redcrossblood.org/metallica for details on how to participate in the T-shirt promotion. Supplies are limited, so early registration is encouraged.Where to donate blood locally (no T-shirt included):
