A Pontiac man accused of setting a man on fire with a lighter has been arraigned on a charge of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.
Joseph Lee Green, 30, is being held in the Oakland County Jail on a $75,000/10% bond set Saturday by Magistrate Michael Bosnic, which allows Green’s release after posting $7,500, according to a release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.
Green is accused of using paper and a lighter to burn a 49-year-old Pontiac resident on his neck, arm and body, the sheriff’s office said. The incident occurred at about 1 a.m. Feb. 5 in the 100 block of Cherryhill in Pontiac and is believed to have stemmed from an incident between the men several weeks before, the sheriff’s office said.
Green was arrested Friday in Detroit by members of the Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, the sheriff’s office said.
“I am very pleased our team could locate and arrest this suspect,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in the release. “It’s hard to imagine the cruelty we see in today’s society, for someone to literally light another human being on fire. We need to send a very strong and clear message that people that do these kinds of heinous acts will be held accountable.”
Green is set to appear in Pontiac’s 50th District Court April 22 for a probable cause conference and April 29 for a preliminary examination.
