


Mt. Zion to host church convention
The Mt. Zion Pentecostal Church of Jesus Christ will host its 38th annual church convention from Sunday through July 20 at the church, 4937 Massachusetts St., Gary. This year’s theme is Standing on Sound Doctrine; Overcoming an Unsound World, Ephesians 2:20. Speakers include elder Geoffrey Carter of Apostolic House of Deliverance, South Bend, at noon Sunday; pastor Rachel Agosto, of Good Shepherd Apostolic Church, Hammond, at 5 p.m. Sunday; district elder Melvin Campbell of Christ Temple Pentecostal Church, Bloomington, 7:30 p.m. Monday; Bishop JE Moore, of Christ Temple Church of the Apostolic Faith, Joliet, Ill., 7:30 p.m. Tuesday; and elder David Hollis, of Logan Park Assembly of Christ, Gary, 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and July 20. Alzheimer’s Association offers programs
The Alzheimer’s Association Greater Indiana Chapter offers free education for families affected by the disease and other dementias. Effective Communication Strategies will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. July 25 at Franciscan Senior Health and Wellness Center, 2150 Gettler St., Suite 305, Dyer. Registration is required at 800-272-3900. The association also hosts ongoing support groups for unpaid care partners, family members and friends of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Meetings are 5:30 p.m. second Thursday of the month at Franciscan Senior Health and Wellness Center, 2150 Gettler St., Suite 305, Dyer; 6 p.m. third Wednesday of the month, Alzheimer’s Association office, 8679 Connecticut St., Suite D, Merrillville; 6:30 p.m. second Thursday of the month, St. John’s United Church of Christ, 101 St. John’s Road, Michigan City; and 4 p.m. last Tuesday of the month, Jasper County Community Services, 967 E. Project Lifesaver event slated
Porter County Triad and Project Lifesaver will demonstrate in real time how quickly people in danger can be located at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at The Farmer’s Market, 63 Lafayette St., Valparaiso. Tourism festival spotlights Miller neighborhood
Gary’s Miller neighborhood will host an Outdoor Adaptive Escapade beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dana Evans Community Corner, 6300 Miller Ave., one of four sites in the community where events will take place. Other activity locations include Calumet Lagoon in Marquette Park, the Douglas Center for Environmental Education and Lake Street Beach.
