WATSONVILLE >> Following six years on the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board of Trustees, Area 7 Trustee Jennifer Holm will be resigning effective Oct. 10, the district announced in a news release.

In a statement, Holm cited the growing demands of her role as director of the nursing program at Cabrillo College.

“It has been my honor to serve as the Trustee for Area VII on the Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board for nearly six years,” she wrote. “However, over the last year, I have observed my work demands coming into increasing conflict with my Board responsibilities. After much reflection, I believe my commitment to serving the community will be best expressed by focusing on my Cabrillo College Nursing Program Director role.”

Holm has been a parent in the district since 2003 when her oldest child began attending Rio Del Mar Elementary School. Her youngest child is now a student at Aptos High. In 2018, she was elected to the school board with 70% of the vote and ran unopposed in the 2022 election. During her time on the board, she has had two stints as president and one as vice president and also served on committees such as the Pajaro Valley Education Foundation and the Special Education Local Plan Area Community Advisory Committee. Prior to serving as the nursing director at Cabrillo, she was a nurse in the Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery at Watsonville Community Hospital.

“As she steps down from her current PVUSD trustee role, Dr. Holm’s commitment to the community remains unwavering,” district officials wrote in a news release. “She will continue to support those working towards their future careers in the nursing profession in her new capacity at Cabrillo.”

The board will seek to appoint a trustee from Area 7 within the next 60 days. The area stretches from Borregas Creek in Aptos to the Monterey County line at the edge of Watsonville, with Seacliff, La Selva Beach and the Pajaro Dunes in between.
