Illinois State Police have arrested a Homer Glen man charged with threatening state Rep. Nicole La Ha, a former Homer Glen trustee and past Mrs. America winner.
Steven Brady, 40, of the 13100 block of Rado Drive, was charged with one count of threat to a public official, a class 3 felony, state police said in a statement.
La Ha received submissions May 15 and 16 through her website allegedly from Brady, in which he included expletives, called her names, referenced her family and indicated he would harm or arrange for others to harm the representative and her family, according to court documents.
When officers contacted Brady, he allegedly stated “you got my message,” according to the court documents.
“He informed police he wanted political figures arrested for stealing from him,” court documents said. “He confirmed that the email address used in the submissions was his email address.”
“Based upon the nature of these threats, the defendant is a threat to the community and a specific threat to Representative La Ha, as well as her family members,” court documents said.
Some of the messages, according to court documents, were “my associates will be in touch with you and they told me what they’re going to do to you and your family” and “say your goodbyes to your old friends and family.”
In addition to the class 3 felony, Brady was also charged with harassment through electronic communications, a misdemeanor, court documents said. A public defender appointed to represent Brady did not return messages Thursday. Brady’s next court date is June 5.
The state police took Brady into custody without incident Monday, and he was ordered held during a pretrial detention hearing on Wednesday, officials said.
La Ha was a Homer Glen trustee from 2021-23 and has been a state representative for the 82nd District since 2023. Her spokesman issued a statement Thursday on her behalf. “Thank you to Will County State’s Attorney Jim Glasgow, Will County Sheriff’s Office, and Illinois State Police for taking action to keep my family safe,” La Ha said.
