Junior Max Aceves scored 27 points, and Watsonville High’s boys basketball team beat Monte Vista Christian 86-67 in Pacific Coast Athletic League Mission Division action Monday.

Freshman George Madec scored 14 points for the Wildcatz (7-2, 3-0), who have won five straight games. Junior Leon Madec scored 12 points, and senior Nathaniel Aguilar scored nine points.

“When we make the next pass we are a good team,” Wildcatz coach Andre Bailey said.

Watsonville scored 27 points in the second quarter and carried a 42-26 lead into the half.

Senior Ryan Smart scored 20 points for the Mustangs (6-5, 0-2). Senior guard Nico Downie scored 17 points, and sophomore guard Matteo Vidal scored 16 points.

On Wednesday at 7 p.m., MVC hosts North Monterey County (7-6, 2-1), while Watsonville plays at Marina (5-9, 0-3). At York 64, Pajaro Valley 48 >> Senior Carlos Escobar scored a team-high 18 points in the Grizzlies’ PCAL Santa Lucia Division loss Monday.

Senior Anthony Aguirre scored 12 points for the Grizzlies (3-8, 2-1), who trailed 36-29 at the half.

Sophomore Gianni Zeljo scored a game-high 25 points for the Falcons (5-4, 3-0). Classmate Kai Tsuchitani scored 14 points.

Pajaro Valley plays at Trinity Christian in Monterey on Friday at 6 p.m.

Girls basketball

Pajaro Valley 46, Santa Catalina 13 >> Olivia Contreras made a 3-pointer and scored 18 points, and the Grizzlies won their PCAL Cypress Division game Monday.

Alyssa Moore scored 12 points for the Grizzlies (4-8, 2-1), who have won three of their past four games. Elizabeth Zamora chipped in with nine points.

Pajaro Valley plays at St. Francis (10-2, 3-0) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Boys soccer

Watsonville 2, Salinas 1 >> Juniors Alexis Castillo-Perez and Elisco Mora scored goals in the Wildcatz’s PCAL Mission Division win Monday.

Senior Tlaloc Ledesma-Pena assisted on Mora’s goal.

Goalie Adrian Fernandez made five saves for the Wildcatz (3-2-5, 2-0-1), who play at Rancho San Juan (3-6-1, 0-2-1) on Friday at 5:45 p.m.

At Pajaro Valley 0, Stevenson 0 >> The Grizzlies had their chances, but didn’t finish in their draw against the visiting Pirates in PCAL Mission Division action Monday.

Goalie Iker Zaragoza made three saves for the Grizzlies (0-5-4, 0-0-3), who play at King City on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m.

At St. Francis 10, Ceiba 0 >> Alyssandra Peterson scored three goals, and the Sharks rolled in their PCAL Santa Lucia Division opener Monday.

Peyton Orradre had two goals, giving her a team-high total of five, and two assists for the Sharks (3-1-1, 1-0-0), and Miriam Abonce scored twice and had an assist.

Kai Ortiz and Elin Cardenas Hernandez, and Ella Dewig also scored a goal.

Alisa Lumicao made three assists, Micaela Garcia set up two goals, and Aubrey Nualart also had an assist.

The Sharks host Marina (2-5-0, 1-0-0) on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Salinas 4, at Watsonville 0 >> Goalie Luz Atrisco made eight saves against the Wildcatz and helped the Cowboys post a shutout in PCAL Gabilan Division action at Cabrillo College on Monday.

Kate Nunes had a goal and two assists to lead the Cowboys (7-1-1, 3-0-0). Morgan Retterer had a goal and an assist, and Delilah Vega-Aguilar and Emily Salmina each scored a goal.
