Yosemite route Highway 140 reopens after closure for fire

Highway 140 into Yosemite National Park reopened Saturday after firefighters reported improving containment of the Colorado fire.
The road — one of the main routes into the park — had been closed after the wildfire broke out roughly 10 miles west of Yosemite. By Wednesday, the fire had grown to 233 acres, with over 100 firefighters deployed. As of Sunday afternoon, the fire was 73% contained.
Labor Day weekend is one of the busiest times of the year for Yosemite, which remains open.
According to a Facebook post by Cal Fire’s Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit, crews are continuing to work on mop up and patrol around the blaze.
“Fire personnel and equipment remain throughout the area and near roadways, please use caution when driving,” said the post.
