Kanta Jayachandran, 86, passed away on September 11.

She was active until her death.

She was born and raised in Bombay, India, and moved to the US in 1963 to pursue a PhD in statistics at Purdue University, which she earned in 1967. She met her husband, Toke, in 1964 and they married the following year.

Kanta and Toke moved to Monterey in 1968 and remained in the area for the next 55 years, raising their two daughters. Kanta was a beloved math teacher at Santa Catalina School for over 30 years, known to her students as Dr. Jay. After retiring in 2003, her friends and family and many hobbies kept her busy and fulfilled.

Kanta is survived by her husband Toke Jayachandran, daughters Priya and Seema Jayachandran, grandchildren Tobias, Nina, and Sybil Grygiel, son-in-law Jakub Grygiel, sister Veena Chawla, and brother Baldev Chawla.
