Austrian skier Huetter wins downhill, Johnson finishes 3rd, Vonn comes in 15th

KVITFJELL, Norway >> Cornelia Huetter won the first women’s World Cup downhill since the Alpine skiing world championships on Friday to give new life to the battle for the discipline title.

The Austrian got her second downhill win of the season after beating Emma Aicher of Germany by 0.15 seconds. The 21-year-old Aicher secured her first career podium finish.

Downhill world champion Breezy Johnson finished 0.40 seconds behind in third as the American continued the wait for her maiden World Cup victory.

Lindsey Vonn was 1.15 seconds off the lead in 13th.

Dale Whitnell makes two holes-in-one in same round at South African Open

DURBAN, South Africa >> Dale Whitnell made two holes-in-one in the same round at the South African Open on Friday, having entered the day worrying about just making the cut at the European tour event.

The 36-year-old Englishman aced the par-3 second and 12th holes at the Durban Country Club in a wild 9-under 63 second round that included an eagle, seven birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey.

Lydia Ko moves into contention in Singapore

SINGAPORE >> Olympic gold medalist and LPGA Hall of Famer Lydia Ko moved to within a shot of the lead with a 5-under 67 Friday after two rounds of the HSBC Women’s World Championship.

The South Korean-born New Zealander had a two-round total of 6-under 138 on the Tanjong course at Sentosa Golf Club. First-round leader A Lim Kim held the lead after 36 holes with a 69 Friday.

Magic’s Jalen Suggs out indefinitely with knee injury

ORLANDO, Fla. >> Jalen Suggs has a left knee injury that will sideline him indefinitely, the latest ailment to stall what had been the Orlando guard’s promising season.

The Magic said Friday that Suggs had a trochlea injury that was discovered after he was experiencing discomfort while trying to return from a bruised left quadriceps that has sidelined him the last month.

Timberwolves’ Edwards suspended 1 game after 16th technical foul

LOS ANGELES >> Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards was suspended one game without pay by the NBA on Friday after picking up his 16th technical foul of the season during the third quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Edwards, who vowed last month that he wouldn’t get any more technicals, was called for two of them Thursday night in a 111-102 loss and automatically ejected. He sat out Friday night when the Timberwolves visited the Utah Jazz.

Delaware AD Rawak will not assume role as CEO

COLORADO SPRINGS>> USA Swimming’s board of governors said Friday night that Delaware athletic director Chrissi Rawak will not assume the role as CEO and president because of “unforeseen personal circumstances that we learned about late this week.”

USA Swimming made the move nine days after announcing Rawak’s hiring. The governing body said Shana Ferguson remains interim CEO.

Rawak was set to fill the spot previously held by Tim Hinchey, who left last year shortly after the Paris Games.
