In Loving Memory of Gary Larson With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gary Larson—beloved husband, father, Grampa, brother, and friend—on May 16, 2025, at the age of 70.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Doris Larson.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 26 years, Julie Larson; his sons, Nicholas (Sara) Townley and Jonathon (Caitlin) Townley; and his cherished grandchildren, Eloise, Emilia, Everett, and Clementine. He is also survived by his siblings, Thomas (Janine) Larson, Barb (Bob) Werneke, and Richard (Elizabeth) Larson, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

A proud Minnesotan, Gary was an avid sports enthusiast who rarely missed a Minnesota Twins or Wild game. He attended Bemidji State University with aspirations of becoming a teacher. Though teaching positions were scarce, he found a meaningful and lifelong career with the State of Minnesota.

Gary was a gifted athlete who enjoyed golf, tennis, hockey, and softball.

His love for sports was matched only by his love for his family. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, and a deeply adored Grampa—his grandchildren were the light of his life.

Gary’s warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone who knew him.

He was taken from us too soon, but his memory will forever live on in our hearts.

ACelebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Oak Marsh Golf Course (526 Inwood Ave N, Oakdale, MN 55128).

In true Gary fashion, guests are invited to wear their favorite Minnesota sports team apparel as we gather to share stories, laughter, and memories in honor of a life well-lived.
