A 19-year-old Crown Point woman was killed when her vehicle was struck by a semi while turning Saturday in unincorporated Cedar Creek Township.

Grace C. McBride, who resided in the 600 block of Hemlock Drive, sustained multiple blunt force trauma injuries in the crash, according to a release from the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

Around 11:45 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Department officers were sent to West 181st Avenue and Harrison Street for a crash, a news release stated. The initial investigation indicated that McBride was traveling north on Harrison and was trying to turn west on 181st Avenue when she was struck by the semi, which was traveling east.

There were two passengers in the back seat — aged 14 and 15 — and they were flown to Chicago hospitals with life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the semi, who is 67, was not injured.

The circumstances that led to the crash are being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department Crash Reconstruction Team.
