Resident of Los Gatos
On December 16, 2024, Henry Harold Reily (Hal) died peacefully in his home at age 92. He was born June 13, 1932 in Ft.
Monroe Virginia Army Base to Henry Harold Reily, Sr. and Lola Reily. His father, an air force pilot, moved his family so frequently, that Hal by the age of 15, he attended 12 schools. His family settled in Boulder Creek, CA where he graduated from high school. At the early age of 16, he began college at San Jose State University.
This is where he met his wife to be, Florence Elizabeth Grey. They married in 1955 while Hal attended George Washington University Medical School. After graduating, he and Florence moved to Spokane, Washington where he served as an Air Force flight surgeon. Following his service, the young family moved to San Jose to complete his schooling as Chief Resident of Pediatrics at Santa Clara County Medical Center. Upon completion, the couple moved with their three children to Los Gatos where he began his pediatric private practice with three physicians. The practice blossomed, as did their life time friendships.
Hal was passionate about his profession and beloved by his patients. Other passions included: reading, symphonies, plays, hiking, rowing, biking, skiing, swimming, and international travel. As a life long learner, he taught himself and became a gifted carpenter, building Craftsman furniture for the entire family. Most who knew him cherished his gift for compassionate listening and his quick witticisms that elevated conversations to a buoyant crescendo. All would invariably describe him as “kind.”
Hal is survived by his wife, Florence, his daughters Melinda Techler (Mark deceased), Suzy Reily (Brian Issac-father of McKenzie), and son John Reily.
His three grandchildren include Michael and Matt Techler (Belen) and McKenzie Issac. He is also survived by one great-grandchild Alden Techler. His kind spirit and generous guidance will be dearly missed by all.
Hal’s memorial service will be held Saturday, February 15, 2024 at 1pmat St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 20 University Ave, Los Gatos, CA 95030. Areception will be held directly after the service at the Reily home, 16244 Kennedy Road, Los Gatos, Ca 95032.
